HIGHLANDS AND RAIN FOREST
7 days - city tours, upland rainforest, Perinet, Golden Bamboo lemur, and the Indri indri. Wednesday departure from Antananarivo.

Day 1
Antananarivo - your first night is spent at the Hotel Colbert, known for its European charm and cuisine, in the heart of the capital city of Madagascar.
Day 2
Antananarivo / Antsirabe - Morning drive through typical highlands scenery of paddy fields flanked by hills, to the spa town of Antsirabe. Lunch at a Malagasy country restaurant en route. Afternoon city tour including visit to the gem specialists, and overnight at the French Colonial Hotel des Thermes.
Day 3
Antsirabe / Ranomafana - The road is long and rough but through very beautiful highlands to the newly established National Park of Ranomafana, stopping en route at the wood carving town of Ambositra. Overnight at the Domaine Nature, adjacent to a lush rain forest teaming with wildlife.
Day 4
Ranomafana - Explore the upland rainforest on foot. This is one of Madagascar's richest habitats which prung into prominence in 1986 with the discovery of a new species of lemur, the Golden Bamboo lemur. Meals and overnight at Domaine Nature.
Day 5
Fianarantsoa / Antananarivo - Morning drive to Fianarantsoa for flight to "Tana". Lunch at the Croc Farm, with its small but interesting zoo, afternoon city tour and check-in at the Hotel Colbert for dinner and overnight.
Day 6
Antananarivo / Andasibe (Perinet Reserve) - Early morning visit to the artisans' market of Androvoahangy and depart on a very scenic road hugging the mountain from the high plateau to the rain forest of the Analamazoatra (Perinet) Reserve. Lunch en route at Peyrieras Nature Farm and mid-afternoon arrival at Vakona Forest Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 7
Andasibe / Antananarivo - Morning and afternoon walks in the reserve looking for the not so elusive Indri indri, largest of the lemurs who does not survive in captivity and can therefore only be seen in this Eastern rainforest area of Madagascar. Late afternoon return to Tana.
